St.Joseph’s church Kannamaly, one of the famous Pilgrim Centres in South India, is situated at the 10th ward of Chellanam Village Panchayath in Ernakulam District of Kerala. The Church is 98 Kilometers away from Nedumbassery International Airport and 40 kms away from Ernakulam South Railway Station and KSRTC Bus stand.

The 21/2 kilometers circumfered Kannamaly Village is sanwiched between Arabic Ocean in the West and Vembanad Lake in the East. It is a Coastal Village, in which majority of the population are fishermen. Even though it is a small village, the church in the name of St. Antony’s, makes it world famous.

The Kannamaly Parish was found in 1873, after departing from the Mundamveli St.Louis Church. The present church, established in February 22nd 1910 is the third one, after the first two churches were destroyed in sea attacks. The two former churches established in 1796 and 1845, were in the name of St.Mary.

The Second Church established in 1845 was completing destroyed by massive sea attack in 1905. Everything was ruined within splits of seconds by gigantic waves.
Everyone was in deep depression at the sight of destroyed church. But to the wonder, a canvas of St.Antony’s was found, without any damage. This made everyone happy. Hence the third church was built in the name of St. Antony’s.
